Byzantine Empire

Byzantine Empire was the first Greek state with christianity as official religion. It survived for 10 centuries until 1453, when Constantinople fell to sultan Mehmet II.

Every trace of the byzantine empire is destroyed after turkish invasion and occupation. Churches, monasteries, towns are converted to stones, manuscripts, books, icons are converted to ashes, christian greeks have been exterminated. Now the place, that in old days byzantines had created the best civilization of their time, is called Turkey.

Byzantine ruins are not destroyed by Ottomans, today most of the Byzantium structures are still present. We can even say, in those centuries Ottomans preserved historical ruins much better than Europeans.
